Holy gas prices Batman!

I watched in a fifteen minute period at work as a few people went to get gas turn into an all out panic. Being the genius that I am I got gas yesterday, forseeing that since refineries were going to be fuct it might be a good idea to fill up. My office started freaking out and rumors were flying about rationing and pumps being shut down at 5. Of course people just over did it. Gas prices shot up by about 40 cents a gallon around the city. As I was driving home I take serious backroads and I happened upon one station in teh middle of hicksville, where teh price was $2.46. I decided why not fill my tank that was already 3/4 full. After a half hour wait I was on my way again. Most stations were charging $2.99, except for one Shell station which was at $3.79. When I got home the Governor came on and announced a state of emergency, that way they can fine people who price gouge. One station was selling gas for $6 a gallon! Anyway it was amazing to see the mob mentality take over in my office as everyone felt teh need to run out and get gas. It happened all across the city, people are in fear that we will run out of gas, there were lines all over the place. It was strange to see it, like we lived in some other country. I know that this is pretty petty of me compared to what teh folks in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama are going through. It is more of an analysis of how panic can occur. So yesterday a lady at work didn't come in. Her 20 year old son had been hit in a hit and run. He had a punctured lung, broken shoulder, broken knee, broken hand and numerous cuts and bruises. It is something like that, that make me want to seize the day and live in the moment. It is why I do things like travel to places when I shouldn't and go after things i shouldn't. Life is too short to not do the fun things you want to do. If I get in a car accident and die tomorrow, I will be glad I went to Oregon and Washington instead of saving my money. I don't know if that is a "smart" way to live, but it's how I choose to live. I don't know what to say other than it can all end at any moment and I don't want to be dead, wishing I had done this or that, I am going to do it. To hell with the consequences. Anyway bed looks might comfy, I am out.

If nothing else, higher gas prices will encourage people to be aware of driving, aware of gas-guzzling SUVs, and it might even encourage auto manufacturer's to push vehicles like hybrids on the public and make them more affordable.
